We have a special Easter event on Monday 14th April and a joint Easter Service with St Thomas as well as a host of other ways to join in with the celebration of Holy Week and Easter locally..,
Whoever you are, whatever you believe, there is a place for you here. We are a new church in Charlton, a community that is exploring what it means to follow Jesus in our time, in our community, and in our lives.
St Richard's is a building but more than that is a group of people who gather to worship, pray, explore, and ask questions.
We are inspired by the creative arts and use them to explore our place in the great story of God and humankind.
We want to enjoy the journey of understanding more about God, loving people courageously and cultivating beauty in at world that needs it.
We live in a word of beauty and of pain, of hope and also despair, full of potential but deeply frustrated by greed, war, consumption and selfishness.
We believe that Jesus invites us all to live differently in this world, to live in peace with each other, with God, with ourselves, and with the earth.
We are a collection of local people, small but diverse. We welcome, embrace, and affirm every person without discrimination. We are all created in God’s image and all have a part to play, whoever we are and however God made us. Our desire is to be an inclusive church in Charlton where anyone can find a place to belong.

A fortnightly "café-style" church gathering accessible to all, regardless of age and church experience. Sitting around tables, we have time to chat and get to know people as well as short talks, creative moments, prayer and worship.
FIRST AND THIRD SUNDAY OF THE MONTH
Evenings of unplugged worship, prayer and reflection in the beautiful chapel at St Richard's. These evenings are spiritually uplifting, a moment where heaven and earth seem unusually close.
Youth film club runs every second Saturday of the month for 12-16 year olds. It's a fun, safe, and supportive space for young people to hang out with friends and make new ones.
A weekly stay and play café for parents and carers with 0-3 year olds. Parent's often tell us they appreciate the calm and welcoming vibe. Hot drinks, cakes and great company. Free to attend with optional donation towards refreshments.
We are gearing up to host a series of Live Session Concerts over the summer profiling local singer-songwriters and bringing some touring artists in too. This is part of our plan to develop a cultural and community hub. We also have other monthly music gatherings.

St Richard's is led by Owen (a Community Chaplain in the Church of England) with experience of leading in a modern church in London and Norwich.
We are part of Chartlon Benefice which includes St Luke's and St Thomas church.
Owen is what is known as a pioneer minister which basically means he is 'pioneering' a new church community in Charlton. This involves meeting people, listening to needs, looking for opportunities to help and gathering people together.
Owen is supported by a growing number of local people who are finding home at St Richard's and is supported by Revd Liz Newman.
Please reach us at hello@strichardscharlton.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Absolutely not, in fact all of the things we host are intended for the whole community. Some gatherings have more faith content (Brunch Church, Chapel Nights etc) but many are just a chance to gather as a community.
St Richard's is part of the Charlton United Benefice which is the name for the two Church of England parishes in Charlton. Revd Liz Newman is the Rector of the benefice. Owen Morgan is the pioneer minister responsible for St Richard's. Owen is currently a final year ordinand (trainee vicar) in the CofE and is the Community Chaplain for the area and the building.
We would love to welcome you and your children to our gatherings. In terms of our church gatherings Brunch Church is certainly the most accessible. We don't have separate children's programmes but run our gatherings in such a way that people of all ages can find their place and be involved.
Yes we really do! For us, being the church means welcoming, embracing and affirming all people, We are called to love all people because GOD LOVES ALL PEOPLE. Married, single, divorced, seekers, skeptics, done with church, ready to try church again, LGBTQ+, disabled, people with additional needs, people of colour. All races, all creeds and cultures. Whatever your age or background, whoever you are, whoever you love, and wherever you are in your journey, YOU are welcome here. There is room for all in God’s Family. There is a place at the table for YOU.
The best thing to do is to follow us on instagram and/or join our WhatsApp community to be kept up to date with what's going on. You can contact us via insta or email to get a link to WhatsApp.
There are many ways to answer this so we will take a few approaches that hopefully help. We are a Christian church, part of the Church of England. But even within that there is a great deal of difference and there are many sub-categories that you may be aware of. We find it hard to locate ourselves in any of them entirely. St Richards is modern, in language and music but we also love to lean on ancient words and practices at times too. We value times of silence but also times of extended worship that you might expect of charismatic churches. We like to be spontaneous and relaxed but we also appreciate the importance of the carefully chosen words of liturgy. Ours is an ancient faith, proclaimed afresh for today's world. Hopefully that gives a sense of what kind of church we are becoming!
For information on hiring space at St Richards see the Charlton Benefice website where you will find contact details for the administrator
We'd love to meet you at one of our gatherings which take place at:
